Personal Observations and Anecdotes
Lena Norheim | The factor that most shocked me arriving at Uyuni and throughout the trip was the different social levels and also the different sightss you see. The desert landscape is filled with bizarre looking rocks, formed by erosion to surrealistic pillars and formations. A 360 degrees spin, all we see is salt. Also steeping foot on to the Salar, only the mountains at a far away distance break the white scenery. Our elongated shadows on the flat and white surface make a comical picture. This bizarre landscape offer some surrealistic photo ops. "A picture is worth a thousand words” doesn’t even apply here. How do you explain an optical illusion in words? |
Nicolas Blacutt | I really enjoyed our trip to Uyuni. Not only the salar but also getting to look at a different view of Bolivia. This experience was unbelievable and I would deffinately do it again. My favorite places were the salar itself, isla incahuasi, the huge rocks, aguas termales, and all the lakes. The class could see what was out of their suburbian life and for once experience the rural life and get to take hundreds of pictures for their memories. This was the best cww I had. I really had a good time. Despite the fact that we were out of the radar and we had no signal to call our family, we all enjoyed the experience. One thing I will never forget is the hours spending talking with the people in which we shared cars with. I got to know more from the classmates in which we shared a car with. Hours and hours of talking from games, to Korean, to economical/global issues. If I could go again to uyuni, i would definitely go and experience once again all the adventure and places Bolivia has to offer. In my opinion we did not unite as a class. We tried to have a class dinner but we would still sit with the group of people we usually hang out with and not make dinner conversations with the classmates we don’t know very well or don’t speak very often. That is my opinion. Some may say we, in fact, did unite as a class, but I see no logical answer. We might have had some unity from some of the class mates we were car accompanies. We might have spoken bit and get to know each other. That is fine to socialize with some of the class mates, but we still need to unite with EVERY PERSON in the class to successfully have achieved the task to have gained unity as a class.

Abby Wollam | Being in the Salar was an unbelievable experience. It was like nothing I have ever seen before. There were many different landscapes that we saw on our trip. From the endless blinding white of the salt flats to the rocky terrain filled with interesting rock formations to the mountains in the background. I don't think I have ever seen any landscapes that look so bizarre yet beautiful. It was a trip I will never forget.

Adrian Vargas | Some years ago I visited the Salt flats but this time we were able to visit new distinct things. But what made this trip unforgettable was without a doubt, the fact that we had the chance to go on this journey with our friends. Through the years, people forget the things they don't enjoy, but keep the memories they have created of the things they do enjoy, and the key factor of the memories we keep are friends. |
